Five-Year Professional Development Plan

Goal 1: Become a knowledgeable advocate for socially just assessment practices.

 

Action Steps:

  1. Participate in workplace research group and discussion sessions around best practices in socially just assessment.

  2. Define socially just assessment and articulate its importance and relevance to employees and campus partners.

  3. Advise campuses on best practices in socially just assessment, provide specific examples for revising and enhancing their processes.

Goal 2: Enhance conceptual knowledge of institutional effectiveness and become an expert in advising campus partners in this area.

 

Action Steps:

  1. Create discovery questions and talk with at least three campus administrators.

  2. Present Institutional Effectiveness Overview to new hires for teaching and training.

  3. Customize and present Institutional Effectiveness Overview to campus partners when needed remotely or in-person.

  4. Research best practice resources and identify at least two areas to pursue further learning.

  5. Independently implement a full IE Assessment Solution for a campus.

Goal 3: Increase knowledge about how local and federal laws impact campus policy and environments.

 

Action Steps:

  1. Read The Chronicle of Higher Education’s “Leadership & Governance” section weekly.

  2. Choose three colleges or universities, each from a different region, and explore the full list of policy resources available on their Equity, Diversity, Inclusion websites.

  3. Interview an individual in Buffalo State’s Equity and Diversity office about their daily job responsibilities.

Goal 4: Attend at least one conference for professional development, exploration of personal interest areas, and opportunities for networking and presenting.

 

Action Steps:

  1. Research conference attendance options (regional and national) to determine level of interest.

  2. Articulate conference of interest and benefits or skills to be gained to manager.

  3. Obtain approval for professional development funding and attend conference.

  4. Identify potential topics and ideas for conference session proposals and submit at least one.

Goal 5: Strengthen my internal voice, interpersonal relationships, and professional performance by maintaining a stress-management routine.

 

Action Steps:

  1. Research subscription benefits for mindfulness apps (e.g., Calm, Headspace) and choose the best tool to support my needs.

  2. Be consistent and intentional with de-stress techniques, such as guided meditation, blogging or journaling, and self-reflection.

  3. Take one 10-15 minute mindfulness break during the workday.
